Fluidstack is building civilization-scale AI compute infrastructure, acquiring power, designing and operating data centers at gigawatt scale. The Power Generation team is solving unprecedented challenges: building islanded grids from scratch, deploying power online in months instead of years, and creating repeatable power blocks that scale across a fleet. As Power Delivery Lead for MV Distribution, you will own the medium-voltage network architecture that carries power from generation blocks to data halls. This is a blank-sheet design problem at scale—no playbook exists, and the standards you set become the reference for the entire fleet. Key responsibilities: - Design the standard MV network that every site deploys, growing by adding blocks rather than redesign. Own the cluster tie and MV substations, including bus arrangement, transformer selection, tie and transfer schemes, and switching sequences that allow new blocks to energize next to live ones without outages. - Run network studies yourself: load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, protection coordination, and EMT studies of switching, energization, and islanded transients. Build and maintain ETAP or SKM PowerTools models that rerun for each site's layout and block count. - Set the protection philosophy and relay settings for an inverter-dominated network with limited fault current. Write standard specifications for MV switchgear, transformers, cable, and relaying that ship with every block. - Define the envelope the standard holds—block count, feeder length, fault level, load step—and set triggers for site-specific studies. Fold learnings from each energized site back into the next standard revision. - Size feeders, cable, and transformers to load. Design MV distribution down to hardware, including metal-clad switchgear, transformers, cable and duct bank ampacity, and grounding. Defend choices against NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE requirements. Fluidstack operates with full autonomy, insane urgency, first-principles reasoning, and a focus on work that matters. You will own things end-to-end, take on scope without being asked, and operate at high intensity. REQUIREMENTS: - You have personally built ETAP or SKM PowerTools models of an MV network and produced load flow, short circuit, and cable sizing results that went into issued-for-construction drawings. - You have built PSCAD models of switching, energization, or islanded events (transformer inrush, ferroresonance, inverter-dominated fault response) and changed a design based on results. - You have set protection philosophy and relay settings for a system with limited or variable fault current and can walk through the coordination that proved it. - You have designed MV distribution down to hardware (metal-clad switchgear, transformers, cable, duct bank ampacity, grounding) and defended choices against NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE requirements with engineers of record and AHJs. - You have designed an MV substation or bus tie scheme that allowed new capacity to energize next to live load and written the switching sequence operators followed. - You have turned a one-off design into a standard that other engineers applied across multiple projects, with clear documentation. - Bonus: Transmission-side study and protection work (IBR interconnection studies, EMT studies, transmission relaying); grid-forming and islanded systems (grid-forming inverters, microgrids, remote and mining power); PE licensure; utility-scale PV and BESS collection systems (34.5 kV collector design); data center electrical distribution (MV through UPS).
