Fluidstack is building civilization-scale AI compute infrastructure, acquiring power, designing and operating data centers at gigawatt scale. The company is singularly focused on delivering compute faster than anyone else by rethinking every layer of the stack, from power generation through operations.
The Energy Team is solving critical problems: installing solar, storage, and gas generation at unprecedented rates across multi-gigawatt sites; securing supply chain capacity at scale; creating hybrid power plants that deliver firm generation for AI workloads; and navigating regulatory approvals and interconnection requirements years ahead of construction.
As PCS Lead Engineer, you will own the power conversion layer across storage and solar installations, including PCS and inverter topology, DC architecture, filtering, and the conversion interface to medium-voltage collection. You will standardize this design across concurrent gigawatt-scale sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Writing PCS and inverter specifications that vendors bid against, qualifying platforms on measured behavior rather than datasheets, and holding OEM engineering accountable through factory witness testing, site acceptance, and warranty.
- Setting converter-level control requirements for firm load operation, grid-forming and grid-following modes, ride-through capability, step-load response, and reactive capability.
- Leading conversion-side energization and commissioning in the field, including first charge/discharge cycles, islanding and transfer tests, and step-load testing against real AI load profiles.
- Root-causing converter trips, derates, and firmware regressions across the fleet, folding every fix back into the standard design to prevent repetition at future sites.
- Writing clear technical documentation that serves OEM engineers, commissioning agents, and executives simultaneously.
The role operates with full autonomy, end-to-end ownership, and operates at high intensity with insane urgency. You will work on problems at the frontier of AI infrastructure, reasoning from first principles and challenging every assumption.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated experience taking power conversion from specification to energized and dispatching on grid-scale storage or solar installations; must be able to name specific sites and megawatts.
- Experience writing an inverter or PCS specification that vendors bid against, with proven ability to hold vendors accountable when standard products did not meet specifications.
- Field experience debugging converter behavior using scope traces, power quality captures, and event records, with demonstrated ability to implement fixes via settings or firmware updates.
- Experience specifying or validating grid-forming operation on plants designed to survive islanded conditions, with understanding of where vendor datasheets diverge from actual hardware behavior.
- Track record of carrying failures from field symptoms through to changes in standard design, not just site-level workarounds.
- Strong technical writing ability.
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grid-forming control and EMT validation (PSCAD, EMTP, PLECS).
- Converter design at hardware level (magnetics, thermal, SiC and IGBT device selection).
- BESS and inverter certification knowledge (UL 1741 SA and SB, IEEE 1547, UL 9540A).
- Experience with named PCS platforms (Power Electronics, SMA, EPC Power, Sungrow, Tesla).
- Behind-the-meter and islanded microgrid operation experience.
- Professional Engineer license.
