Aalo Atomics is pioneering factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. The company is developing modular sodium-cooled reactor technology (Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor) intended for scalable manufacturing and deployment globally. As a Nuclear Analysis Engineer, you will perform a broad range of reactor physics and neutronics analyses using modern modeling and simulation tools. Your work will support the design, analysis, licensing, testing, deployment, and operation of Aalo's advanced reactor systems. You will contribute directly to reactor core design, safety analysis, and the technical basis needed to support design decisions, testing, and regulatory engagement. Key responsibilities include: - Perform neutronics and reactor physics analyses in support of advanced reactor core design, evaluation, and optimization - Develop high-fidelity three-dimensional reactor models using Monte Carlo transport tools (Serpent, MCNP, OpenMC, SCALE) - Perform deterministic reactor physics calculations and develop reduced-order models for design iteration and coupled analyses - Evaluate core criticality, neutron flux and power distributions, power peaking, control rod worth, shutdown margin, excess reactivity, and other key nuclear design parameters - Perform fuel depletion and fuel cycle analyses, including burnup, isotopic evolution, fission product poisoning, reactivity swing, activation, decay heat, and fuel management strategies - Support multiphysics analysis by coupling neutronics models with thermal-hydraulics, fuel performance, and thermo-mechanical analysis tools - Evaluate reactivity coefficients and feedback mechanisms (Doppler, moderator temperature, coolant effects, voiding) - Calculate reactor kinetics parameters including delayed neutron fraction and neutron generation time - Perform activation, radiation source term, and shielding analyses - Prepare clear technical reports, presentations, and documentation for design reviews, safety analyses, and licensing activities - Communicate methods, assumptions, uncertainties, and design implications to technical and cross-functional stakeholders You will work in a fast-paced engineering environment, taking ownership of difficult technical problems and helping drive designs from early concepts through detailed analysis, fabrication, testing, and operation. The role is highly collaborative, interfacing closely with teams across fuel design, thermal-hydraulics, safety analysis, mechanical design, manufacturing, testing, and licensing. Technical areas may include: Monte Carlo neutron transport, deterministic neutron transport and diffusion methods, criticality analysis, fuel depletion and fuel cycle analysis, radioactive decay and activation, sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification, multiphysics coupling, neutron instrumentation and detector response, and verification and validation of neutronics analysis software. **REQUIREMENTS:** - Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline - 5+ years of experience performing reactor physics or neutronics analyses for nuclear reactor systems - Strong grounding in neutron transport, reactor physics, criticality, and nuclear engineering fundamentals - Experience with continuous-energy Monte Carlo methods and codes - Proficiency with at least one major neutronics analysis tool (Serpent, MCNP, OpenMC, SCALE, or equivalent) - Strong technical writing and communication skills - Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams - Problem-solving mindset; energized by complex technical challenges - Sense of urgency; ability to move quickly while maintaining quality Note: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Persons in compliance with 10 CFR Part 810 and may not hold non-compliant foreign citizenships.
