VAST Data is building the data platform for the AI era, providing enterprise software infrastructure to capture, catalog, refine, enrich, and protect massive datasets for real-time analysis and AI training/inference.
As a Network Engineer in VAST's Field Engineering organization, you will define how VAST connects to the world through reference architectures, validated switch configurations, and RDMA fabric designs that underpin every customer deployment. This is a design and research role focused on deep technical work, not operational support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and operating a lab environment where new switches, NICs, and network operating systems are qualified before customer deployment
- Investigating complex fabric behavior across different speeds (e.g., 800G vs. 100G) and developing standards used across the field organization
- Reproducing and resolving novel issues encountered by strategic customers, then preventing recurrence for future deployments
- Collaborating across R&D, QA, Support, Product, and customer engineering teams
- Working directly with major networking vendors including NVIDIA, Arista, Cisco, and Juniper
- Focusing on the most challenging aspects of AI infrastructure: GPU fabrics, lossless Ethernet, and storage protocols operating at line rate
The role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge AI infrastructure and advanced networking, requiring deep expertise in high-performance, mission-critical systems.
