VAST Data is building the data platform for the AI era, providing enterprise software infrastructure to capture, catalog, refine, enrich, and protect massive datasets for real-time analysis and AI training/inference. The company designs solutions to simplify AI deployment and reduce the cost and complexity of enterprise and AI infrastructure across data center, edge, and cloud environments. As a Network Engineer in VAST's Field Engineering organization, you will define how VAST connects to the world through reference architectures, validated switch configurations, and RDMA fabric designs that underpin every customer deployment. This is a design and research role focused on building and running the lab where new switches, NICs, and network operating systems are qualified before reaching customers. Key responsibilities include: - Investigating fabric behavior differences across varying speeds (e.g., 800G vs. 100G) and translating findings into standards used across the field organization - Reproducing, explaining, and resolving novel issues encountered by strategic customers to prevent recurrence - Collaborating across R&D, QA, Support, Product, and customer engineering teams - Working directly with major networking vendors including NVIDIA, Arista, Cisco, and Juniper - Operating at the intersection of AI infrastructure challenges: GPU fabrics, lossless Ethernet, and storage protocols at line rate This role sits at the cutting edge of high-performance networking for AI, requiring deep expertise in RDMA, fabric design, and enterprise-scale infrastructure. You will drive technical standards and best practices that shape how VAST's customers deploy mission-critical AI infrastructure.
