Peripheral Labs is developing spatial intelligence technology for live sports and entertainment, generating 3D spatial data for advanced analytics and immersive media. The company is solving research challenges in 3D computer vision and robotic perception, backed by top-tier investors including Khosla Ventures and Inovia.
You will join the Reconstruction team as an ML Engineer focused on pushing the state of the art in 3D reconstruction, neural rendering, and spatial models. Reporting to the Senior Reconstruction Engineer, you'll work primarily on the research side, developing and evaluating new approaches while seeing promising results integrated into Peripheral's core production pipeline. This role bridges research and engineering: you'll run rigorous experiments independently while learning how to transform strong research results into reliable, production-scale systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, run, and analyze experiments across 3D reconstruction, neural rendering, and spatial models (monocular depth estimation, multi-view stereo, NeRF/Gaussian-splatting approaches, etc.)
- Implement and evaluate new techniques from research literature and your own ideas, reporting results clearly to the team
- Help move promising research into production by profiling, optimizing, and handing off models in forms the broader team can build on
- Contribute to establishing research culture, standards, and rigor as an early-stage team member
You should be someone who has already published serious research in 3D reconstruction or neural rendering and wants to see that work scale beyond academic papers. You're comfortable moving from new ideas to working implementations and honest evaluation. You think deeply about the full spectrum of spatial understanding—from classical multi-view geometry to modern neural approaches—and have informed opinions on where the field is headed. You work independently, take ownership of experiments, and are a strong collaborator who shares results openly and learns quickly from peers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Vision, or related field
- Publication(s) at top-tier venue (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, 3DV) in 3D reconstruction, neural rendering, or spatial modeling as first author or major contributor
- Strong research experience in 3D reconstruction and spatial modeling, spanning both classical approaches (multi-view geometry, structure-from-motion) and neural approaches (implicit representations, neural rendering)
- Proficiency in Python and deep learning framework, with track record of implementing and training models from scratch
- Strong communication skills to explain results and trade-offs to researchers and engineers
- Legal right to work in Canada and willingness to relocate to Toronto for in-office role
- No immigration sponsorship available
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with SLAM frameworks, point cloud processing, or 3D reconstruction libraries (COLMAP, Open3D, PCL)
- Experience with large-scale spatial data pipelines (multi-camera/LiDAR capture, calibration)
- Open-source contributions or released code and datasets associated with research
- Background in robotics, autonomous systems, or motion capture applications of 3D reconstruction
