Reliable Robotics is building safety-enhancing autonomous aviation systems to transform how goods and people move globally. As a Mission Performance Analyst on the System Development team, you will bridge first-principles physics and deterministic safety constraints to define the operational boundaries of self-flying aircraft.
You will establish safe, quantified operational thresholds by leveraging existing simulations and building first-principles models where gaps exist. You'll partner with Autopilot and Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) teams to analyze flight control limits and ensure robust performance during mode transitions and edge-case scenarios. Your work will determine environmental thresholds (crosswinds, icing, link latencies) that dictate how systems navigate behavioral state transitions.
Key responsibilities include defining representative, high-stakes mission scenarios that demonstrate physical system resilience under compounding failure conditions; providing quantitative physical foundations for safety engineering hazard assessments; ingesting and analyzing real-world flight databases and telemetry logs using Python, MATLAB, or SQL to extract operating behavior insights and establish flight performance baselines; and quantifying procedural thresholds for Flight Manual Supplements accounting for atmosphere, terrain, and payload variability.
This role is critical because it converts complex, first-principles physical and environmental aircraft limits into precise, quantitative requirements that keep self-flying aircraft safe under any conditions. You will work in a dynamic, high-growth environment with experienced multi-disciplinary teams. Travel up to 10% of the time is required. This position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information; applicants must establish U.S. person status or obtain export authorization.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree in Science or Engineering (or Bachelor's degree with 10+ years experience) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience in aircraft performance analysis, flight sciences, flight dynamics, or aerospace systems engineering
- Proficiency in processing and analyzing large, noisy flight datasets or raw telemetry using Python, MATLAB, or SQL
PREFERRED:
- Creative problem solver applying first-principles physical and aerodynamic analyses to bridge gaps in incomplete flight datasets
- First-hand experience operating Part 23 or Part 25 aircraft with FAA-certificated ASEL or AMEL private, commercial, or Airline Transport Pilot certificate; or experience remotely piloting large military uncrewed aircraft
- Familiarity with aerospace development standards (ARP4754B, ARP4761) and airworthiness regulations (14 CFR Parts 23 and 25, especially performance criteria)
- Experience supporting auto-flight, autopilot, GNC, or envelope protection functions, including analyzing automated software/hardware interfaces and physical system constraints
