Salary: USD 120,000 - 200,000 / annual
CHAOS Industries is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the R&D and product engineering team, initially focusing on next-generation radar products. This is a collaborative role where you will work across multiple capabilities within the product offerings and have opportunities to expand your skillset across product families.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research & development and production software development for next-generation radar products
- Support system integration of software on hardware, primarily using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware
- Support deployed software capabilities for U.S. and international customers
- Work full-time on-site in the El Segundo, California office

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of professional object-oriented software development experience
- Extensive/advanced Python experience
- Experience with Agile lifecycle processes including Scrum, Continuous Integration, and Test-Driven Development methodologies
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate on small teams
- Solid understanding and extensive experience with Linux-based software development
- U.S. Person status required (position requires access to U.S.-only data systems)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with hardware/software integration and testing (I&T) and verification & validation (V&V) of high-TRL systems
- Production-level software development and deployment experience, including DevOps, DevSecOps, and/or CI/CD using modern FOSS/COTS toolsets
- Experience with software development tools enforcing best practices (linting, code coverage, code quality/security scanning, documentation generation)
- Networking experience (software and hardware)
- CUDA/JAX experience
- Software-Defined Radio (SDR) development experience (e.g., Ettus)
- Near-real-time systems development experience
- Additional programming languages such as C++, Rust, NodeJS, Java, Go
- Git and container technologies (Docker, Podman) experience
