The Member of Technical Staff - SDK role focuses on building developer-centric software and abstractions that enhance productivity. The team is working on improving the developer and agent experience of Modal's SDK and CLI, and developing new primitives to support emerging use cases in the AI and data infrastructure space.
You will work directly with customers to understand their needs, participate in on-call rotations for production support, and contribute to both internal and open-source projects. The role emphasizes code-as-product thinking, with a focus on developer ergonomics, clean abstractions, and user empathy.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience developing high-quality Python, JavaScript, or Go applications or libraries used by other developers
- Strong code-as-product sense with focus on developer ergonomics and productivity
- Knowledge of async programming and concurrency management/pitfalls
- High level of customer empathy, good communication skills, and openness to working directly with users
- Ability to participate in on-call rotation and respond to production incidents
- Ability to work in-person in New York or Stockholm office
PLUS (preferred):
- Experience building developer tools or SDKs
- Experience maintaining open-source software
- Understanding of agentic development workflows
- Familiarity with modern data, ML, or AI tools and workflows
