Cohere is a leading enterprise AI company building cutting-edge foundation models and end-to-end products for businesses. As a Member of Technical Staff in Post-Training Data Infrastructure, you will design, build, and own the data pipelines that produce post-training data for large language models, including SFT (supervised fine-tuning), preference data, RL (reinforcement learning) data, and both synthetic and human-annotated datasets.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining production-grade data pipelines for SFT, preference, and RL post-training workflows. Your work will directly enable researchers and annotation teams to iterate on data as rapidly as they iterate on models. Key responsibilities include owning dataset quality, versioning, and reproducibility; converting research data recipes into reusable, production-ready components; scaling model inference for data generation and model-based grading; and designing data formats and schemas that keep post-training datasets consistent and efficient for training.
You will collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, and annotation teams to ensure data pipelines keep pace with the needs of cutting-edge language models. This is a high-impact role where you'll work on infrastructure that directly shapes the capabilities of frontier AI systems.
Cohere is remote-friendly with offices in Toronto, London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin, and Seoul. The company offers comprehensive benefits including health and dental coverage, retirement matching (RRSP/401K/Pension), 100% parental leave top-up for up to 6 months, 6 weeks of paid vacation, education and learning stipends, and a $500 home office stipend.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong software engineering skills
- Experience designing and building large-scale data pipelines for machine learning, ideally for LLM post-training
- Track record of running distributed data processing and model inference at scale
- Good understanding of post-training methods (e.g., SFT, RLHF, DPO) and how data shapes model behavior
- Excellent communication skills
Note: Cohere values diverse backgrounds and encourages applications even if not all qualifications are met.
