Envoy is a workplace management platform trusted by over 16,000 organizations globally to unify people, spaces, and communications in a secure, integrated system. The Response team builds technology that helps organizations protect their people, stay ahead of emerging threats, and communicate effectively during critical situations. In this Senior Fullstack Engineer role, you'll work on two core product areas: the Threat Intelligence platform and the Emergency Notifications platform. The Threat Intelligence system processes large volumes of real-time signals from thousands of sources, uses AI to identify and enrich relevant threats, and helps organizations understand potential risks to their people and workplaces. The Emergency Notifications platform enables organizations to communicate critical information to employees and visitors quickly and reliably across multiple channels (SMS, email, mobile push, Slack) when it matters most. This is a backend-focused fullstack role where you'll spend most of your time designing scalable services, building distributed systems, and solving complex backend challenges, while also owning customer-facing experiences using React. You'll tackle challenging engineering problems involving distributed systems, real-time data pipelines, geospatial intelligence, and AI-powered decision-making. Key responsibilities include: building and scaling real-time threat intelligence systems that ingest, process, classify, and enrich signals from numerous data sources; solving challenging distributed systems problems including high-throughput event processing, data deduplication, and reliable asynchronous workflows; applying AI to real-world engineering problems to identify relevant threats and reduce noise; designing, building, and operating scalable backend services using Kotlin, Kafka, Postgres, AWS, and OpenSearch; building intuitive customer-facing experiences using React and TypeScript; driving technical design and architecture decisions; owning features end-to-end from design through production operations; and raising the engineering bar through code reviews and technical mentorship. The role is on-site 4 days per week (Monday–Thursday) at the San Francisco HQ office. Requirements: - BS or MS in Computer Science or related technical field - 7+ years of experience building and operating production software with strong backend expertise and full-stack experience - Strong programming fundamentals and experience building backend services using Kotlin or Java - Experience designing scalable distributed systems, microservices, and APIs with solid understanding of system architecture and engineering tradeoffs - Experience with relational databases such as Postgres, including data modeling, query optimization, and performance considerations - Experience with asynchronous processing, event-driven architectures, or messaging systems such as Kafka - Working proficiency with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, with ability to independently build and ship frontend features - Strong product mindset and ability to balance technical excellence with delivering meaningful customer value - Experience driving technical projects independently, navigating ambiguity, and collaborating across Engineering, Product, and Design Nice to have: - Experience building AI-powered applications or integrating LLMs into production systems - Experience with high-throughput data pipelines, stream processing, or search technologies such as OpenSearch - Experience with geospatial data, real-time alerting, or mission-critical communication systems
