Sprinter Health is reimagining home-based healthcare delivery, having supported over 2 million patients across 22 states with 130,000+ in-home visits. The company has raised $125M from top-tier investors including a16z, General Catalyst, and Accel.
As Medical Coding Manager, you will lead Sprinter's coding operations team, overseeing medical coders and coding auditors responsible for accurate, compliant code assignment across in-home and virtual services. You'll own the full coding function—operations, quality, audit programs—and partner with clinical, operations, product, and revenue cycle stakeholders to support clean claims, risk adjustment, and quality reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and coaching a remote team of medical coders and auditors through regular 1:1s, clear expectations, and a trust-based culture
- Managing day-to-day coding operations: work queue oversight, workload balancing, turnaround times, and tracking accuracy, productivity, and compliance metrics
- Serving as primary escalation point for complex coding scenarios, partnering with Revenue Cycle and Compliance on audit findings and denial trends
- Ensuring coding accuracy and compliance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, CMS, and payer-specific guidelines through training, policies, and oversight
- Developing and maintaining coding policies, playbooks, and job aids for consistent, high-quality decisions
- Designing and owning a comprehensive coding education program: new-hire onboarding, ramp plans, competency checklists, and 30/60/90-day milestones
- Delivering ongoing training (huddles, workshops, office hours) on guideline updates, payer changes, error patterns, and Sprinter-specific workflows
- Creating and maintaining a centralized library of training materials (guides, FAQs, tip sheets, videos)
- Providing individual coaching based on performance data and audit trends; supporting professional certifications and continuing education
- Fostering a learning culture that normalizes questions, encourages peer knowledge-sharing, and reinforces HIPAA/compliance standards
You'll thrive in this role if you're energized by developing people and building structured training programs, care deeply about accuracy and compliance, prefer leading through clarity and collaboration, enjoy translating complex rules into usable guidance, and want to shape the future of coding operations in a high-growth, tech-forward environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Active AAPC (CPC, COC) or AHIMA (CCS-P, CCS) certification
- Minimum 5 years of professional coding experience, with at least 2 years in a senior, lead, or supervisory role supporting other coders
- Strong understanding of pro-fee coding, including preventive care, primary care, diagnostics, and virtual/telehealth services
- Deep knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and national/payer-specific guidelines
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering coding education (leading trainings, building guides, mentoring)
- Familiarity with HCC/risk adjustment coding and value-based care/quality programs
- Experience presenting to and working with external clients/partners, including developing client-facing reports and analytics
- Proficiency with EHR systems, encoder/coding software, and productivity/quality reporting tools (Elation and Google Workspace experience a plus)
- Excellent communication and coaching skills for both coding and non-coding audiences
- Proven ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage a remote team
