Bedrock Robotics is deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction equipment across the country. The company has raised $350M in two years and achieved the first fully autonomous excavator deployments in construction, with a leadership team that includes veterans from Waymo, Segment, and Uber Freight.
As a Mechanical Systems Integration Engineer, you will own the physical integration of sensors, compute hardware, actuators, and supporting subsystems onto next-generation autonomous construction machines. You'll translate system-level requirements into robust mechanical designs optimized for scale, reliability, manufacturing, and real-world durability in demanding environments including vibration, shock, dust, debris, and weather exposure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing mounting brackets, enclosures, class A surfaces, and structural interfaces for sensors (cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMUs), compute units, and ancillary hardware
- Creating detailed 3D CAD models and GD&T-compliant drawings using Onshape for fabrication and vendor sourcing
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define physical routing for wire harnesses, fluid lines, and cooling components within tight mechanical envelopes
- Designing sealing, gasketing, and protective enclosures (IP-rated) to protect sensitive electronics from moisture, dust, and contamination
- Participating hands-on in prototype builds, including hardware installation, fit-check validation, and iterative design refinement on the shop floor
- Performing structural and thermal analysis, including first-order hand calculations and collaboration with analysis teams for static loads, vibration fatigue, and thermal dissipation validation
- Managing supplier and vendor relationships for custom brackets, enclosures, and machined components from RFQ through delivery
- Designing non-invasive mechanical integration solutions for OEM donor vehicles that preserve factory structure and serviceability
- Partnering with electrical, software, and field teams during bring-up and validation to resolve fit, form, and function issues
- Maintaining accurate Bills of Materials, assembly drawings, and integration documentation throughout the product lifecycle
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and integration for vehicles, heavy machinery, robotics, or industrial equipment
- Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools such as Onshape, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Siemens NX
- Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems is a plus
