Sesame is building a new kind of computer focused on voice agents and lifelike human-computer interaction. The company brings together founders from Oculus and Ubiquity6, alongside leaders from Meta, Google, and Apple, with deep expertise in hardware and software.
As Mechanical Engineer, Product Design, you will own the mechanical architecture and design for all wearable hardware workstreams. This is a senior individual contributor role requiring you to drive or influence all aspects of mechanical development, including system architecture, mechanical form and architecture, thermal design and testing, component and vendor selection, prototyping roadmaps and execution, and test and calibration.
You will architect, design, simulate, prototype, and ship mechanical systems and components in wearable form factors. You'll generate models, drawings, simulations, and specifications to support internal and external partners in design and manufacturing. You'll serve as the mechanical subject-matter expert, collaborating with Electrical, Firmware, Industrial Design, and soft goods teams to solve complex integration challenges. You'll identify, evaluate, and direct materials and fabrication partners, and travel as needed for product and prototype development.
The role requires integrating complex sensing and computing systems into compact, attractive, and functional wearable form factors. You'll need to balance technical excellence with aesthetic design, working in a fast-paced startup environment where everyone is expected to be comfortable, collaborative, decisive, and able to achieve results with limited supervision.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of relevant work experience with product design
- 4+ years of relevant work experience with wearable product design
- Experience with complex electromechanical integration, including sensors, cameras, batteries, antennas, and audio systems in very small form factors
- Working knowledge of material properties (plastics, metals, adhesives, glass)
- Experience shipping products in a lead or principal engineer role
- Expert proficiency with Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and mechanical simulation tools
- Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.)
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in a consumer electronics company
- Experience with optical systems
- In-depth knowledge in one or more areas within Product Design
- Experience shipping wearable electronics with significant industrial design and cosmetic constraints
