Salary: USD 106,000 - 159,000 / annual
Re:Build Manufacturing operates an advanced, end-to-end manufacturing platform serving aerospace and defense, electrification, medical, energy, and robotics sectors. Re:Build Optimation, part of the Re:Build family, specializes in custom-engineered process equipment and automated systems with 40 years of experience in complex chemical process systems. The division employs 70+ engineers and designers with 150,000 sq ft of fabrication space.
You will lead the New Product Introduction (NPI) engineering team, reporting to the Director of Mechanical Machine Engineering and Design. This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical direction, project execution, team development, and client partnership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead NPI team priorities, resource planning, and day-to-day execution
- Coach and develop team members; support recruiting, onboarding, and performance management
- Direct multidisciplinary engineering projects from feasibility through prototype, pilot build, production launch, and manufacturing handoff
- Oversee mechanical designs, drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions
- Lead design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) reviews to identify production risks early
- Apply Manufacturing Constrained Design, 3P, and 2P methods to simplify designs and support scalable production
- Direct prototype builds, tolerance analysis, testing, and design validation
- Partner with manufacturing, sourcing, internal trades, outside builders, and cross-functional engineering teams
- Create project plans, schedules, proposals, cost estimates, and risk-mitigation strategies
- Develop engineering calculations, design standards, technical documentation, and drawing packages
- Build and maintain client relationships; communicate technical recommendations and support business development
- Promote safe design and work practices throughout projects
The role requires an onsite presence in Rochester, NY with up to 25% travel.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience supporting new product introduction
- Experience with concept development, prototyping, design for manufacturability, design for assembly, and production launch
- Experience reducing launch risk through manufacturing-feasibility reviews, tolerance analysis, testing, and iterative design validation
- 5+ years using SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD platform (complex assemblies, master models, surface modeling)
- Knowledge of common manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal fabrication, molding, extrusion, casting)
- Experience leading complex, multidisciplinary projects from concept through completion
- Strong technical problem-solving, risk management, and communication skills (technical and nontechnical audiences)
- Ability to travel up to 25%
**Preferred qualifications:**
- Experience leading technical teams
- Familiarity with product data management systems, FEA, CFD, or multiphysics simulation
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous-improvement methods
- Professional Engineer license or eligibility for licensure
