AtmosZero is building next-generation industrial steam infrastructure. The company's flagship product, Boiler 2.0, is a modular industrial steam heat pump designed to help manufacturers reduce operational risk, improve flexibility, and modernize steam generation. This role owns the mechanical integration and details of the compressor package within a 1 MW product moving through procurement, fabrication, assembly, installation, and test.
You will own mechanical integration of the compressor and high-speed rotating assembly into the product. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining compressor-package models, drawings, interface definitions, bills of material, and installation requirements. You will coordinate bearings, seals, shafts, housings, motors, instrumentation, mounting, piping connections, alignment, guarding, and service access. You will support compressor procurement, supplier reviews, fabrication, assembly, installation, commissioning, and testing. You will diagnose mechanical and interface issues with the Turbomachinery Engineer, suppliers, technicians, test engineers, and external specialists. You will create and close compressor-related ECOs, drawing revisions, deviations, and configuration-control records. You will translate first-of-a-kind learning into manufacturable, reliable, and serviceable production designs. You will lead or support tolerance analysis, rotor-package interface reviews, DFMEA, technical risk reduction, and supplier qualification.
Success in your first year means: within 90 days, understanding the compressor architecture and interfaces and taking ownership of a defined compressor-integration work package; by six months, resolving hardware or test issues and releasing resulting drawings, interface updates, and ECOs; by twelve months, delivering a validated compressor-package improvement incorporated into the production-intent design.
The company is hiring at three levels based on demonstrated scope, independence, and judgment: Engineer II independently manages defined mechanical projects or portions of the product; Engineer III owns significant subsystems or design work packages and manages interfaces and ambiguity with limited supervision; Senior Engineer I leads complex mechanical initiatives through ambiguity, mentors teammates, and influences cross-functional decisions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline, with experience appropriate to the level at which you are hired
- Strong mechanical design fundamentals involving precision assemblies, fits and tolerances, materials, fasteners, load paths, thermal growth, vibration, and equipment integration
- Experience taking complex mechanical hardware from requirements through release, fabrication, assembly, test, and troubleshooting
- Experience with production-quality CAD, drawings, BOMs, interface-control documentation, and engineering changes
- Ability to perform or review calculations for loads, alignment, deflection, thermal expansion, tolerance stack-up, and component sizing
- Ability to work directly with suppliers, fabricators, technicians, and test teams to turn incomplete inputs into controlled engineering decisions
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Experience with compressors, pumps, turbomachinery, rotating equipment, bearings, seals, motors, or other high-speed mechanical equipment
- Experience with compressor skids, pressure-boundary interfaces, lubrication systems, vibration instrumentation, alignment, or rotor-support hardware
- Experience with SolidWorks and PDM-controlled release, large assemblies, GD&T, DFMEA, supplier qualification, or prototype builds
- Experience with industrial heat pumps, refrigeration, steam systems, or packaged industrial equipment
