Hut 8 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the design, engineering, and commissioning of mechanical systems for mission-critical infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on role where you will serve as Engineer of Record, taking full professional responsibility for mechanical system design end-to-end, including chilled-water plants, air-cooled and direct-liquid-cooling (DLC) systems, piping, and fire protection systems.
You will design mechanical systems from first principles, stamp calculations and drawings as the responsible engineer, and maintain close involvement through construction and commissioning phases. Your responsibilities include catching design conflicts before they become field delays, challenging cost and constructability assumptions, and reviewing third-party engineering deliverables. You will work directly with contractors, vendors, and construction teams to ensure systems are built and commissioned correctly.
The company culture emphasizes ownership over hierarchy: your influence is defined by the scope and impact you take on, not your title. You will have real responsibility and the space to operate beyond traditional role boundaries, with scope and responsibility growing with demonstrated impact and trust.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)
- 7+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for data centers, industrial, or other mission-critical facilities
- Working knowledge of IMC, IPC, IECC, NFPA 13, ASME B31, and ASHRAE TC 9.9
- Hands-on experience with chilled-water plants and liquid-cooling architectures
- Ability to read and redline P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and construction documents independently
- Direct experience working with contractors, vendors, and construction teams through commissioning
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of experience with multi-site U.S. data center delivery
- CFD or thermal-hydraulic modeling experience (AFT Fathom, ANSYS, or similar)
- Background at a company that self-performs builds rather than relying on general contractors
- Experience integrating with BAS/controls systems
