Halter is a venture-backed agtech company transforming grazing management through innovative hardware. The company has developed wearable devices for cattle that enable farmers to manage herds without traditional fencing, quad bikes, or dogs—improving productivity and sustainability. Backed by tier-1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and DCVC, Halter is scaling rapidly into new markets in 2027.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will own hardware development across the full product lifecycle—from initial design and sketching through lab testing, production optimization, and field deployment. The role is fast-paced and adaptive, requiring problem-solving and critical thinking to deliver robust electro-mechanical products that operate 24/7 in harsh outdoor environments for 6–10 years.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and iterating reliable, field-tested hardware with high ownership and accountability
- Conducting verification and validation testing, including designing and documenting high-quality test protocols
- Developing complex injection-molded parts (including overmolding) and collaborating with contract manufacturers in China and Thailand on tool commissioning and production optimization
- Applying Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize for high-volume production
- Spending time on farms with customers to understand ergonomic and real-world requirements
- Contributing to a small, agile team culture where you'll work on the most impactful projects and help shape company success
The team values rapid execution, hands-on problem-solving at supplier facilities, and a startup mentality where everyone rolls up their sleeves to deliver results.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field (highly desired)
- 1+ years of professional experience working on robust hardware
- Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drafting, preferably Solidworks or Onshape
- Willingness to travel 10–20% annually (negotiable)
- Experience with injection molding design and contract manufacturer collaboration is valuable
- Familiarity with outdoor/field hardware challenges and full product lifecycle exposure is valuable
