Xona Space Systems is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join the spacecraft hardware development team in Montreal. Xona is building Pulsar, an advanced positioning and navigation satellite infrastructure in low Earth orbit designed to provide real-time, centimeter-level precision positioning globally.
In this role, you will support the design, development, and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems for satellite flight hardware, including attitude determination and control systems and power optimization components. You will work closely with controls, electrical, systems, avionics, software, manufacturing, and test engineers in a hands-on environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the design and development of mechanical and electromechanical components and assemblies
- Creating and updating 3D CAD models, drawings, and design documentation
- Assisting with requirements definition, trade studies, analysis, and design reviews
- Supporting hardware bring-up, integration, verification, and environmental test campaigns
- Developing and executing mechanical tests, including vibration and thermal cycling
- Evaluating and coordinating with suppliers on component selection
- Contributing to prototype builds, troubleshooting, and design improvements
- Documenting test results, engineering analyses, and design decisions
- Working under the guidance of senior engineers while progressively taking ownership of assigned components or subsystems
You will balance thoughtful engineering with hands-on execution, participate directly in builds and testing, work effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities may shift, and contribute to a collaborative, high-ownership culture focused on building reliable flight hardware.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 2 to 4 years of experience in mechanical design, development, testing, or related engineering role (new graduates with relevant project or internship experience encouraged to apply)
- Familiarity with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks
- Understanding of machine design, mechanics of materials, kinematics, dynamics, and thermodynamics
- Experience with or strong interest in mechanical testing, prototyping, and hands-on hardware development
- Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
- Must obtain and hold security clearance at reliability status level and pass security assessment for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with precision mechanisms, robotics, electric motors, or high-speed rotating assemblies
- Exposure to spacecraft systems, ADCS hardware, or electromechanical control systems
- Familiarity with finite element analysis for structural, thermal, or dynamic applications
- Experience supporting hardware integration, assembly, environmental testing, or qualification activities
- Understanding of control systems or control theory
