Mach Industries, founded in 2023, is a rapidly growing defense technology company with ~350 employees focused on developing next-generation autonomous defense platforms. The company operates with startup agility while addressing national security challenges through scalable, decentralized defense systems.
You will join the mechanical engineering team to design, prototype, and iterate on mechanical and electromechanical systems supporting next-generation defense platforms. This is a hands-on role spanning the entire hardware development cycle—from CAD modeling and first-order calculations through prototyping, testing, and design iteration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own mechanical design and development of subsystem-level hardware from concept through production
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and documentation for fabrication, assembly, inspection, and testing
- Support hands-on testing at vehicle, subscale, and coupon levels for design validation and qualification
- Drive manufacturability decisions, part selection, and tolerance stack-up (GD&T) for scalable production
- Apply mechanical fundamentals (structural, thermal, materials) and first-order sizing for robust, lightweight designs
- Design fixtures and tooling for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, qualification, and testing of aerospace assemblies
- Author test plans, technical documentation, and engineering milestones
- Support critical development and test milestones, including occasional extended hours and weekends
This role requires collaboration with experienced engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to develop structural components meeting demanding requirements for strength, stiffness, manufacturability, and performance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with focus on designing and prototyping mechanical systems (professional, hobby, or academic)
- Strong 3D CAD modeling skills (NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent) including GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Demonstrated experience owning hands-on, end-to-end hardware development (FSAE, DBF, Rocket Team, or similar)
- Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- ITAR eligibility: Must be U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, Refugee, or Asylee, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from U.S. Department of State
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with lightweight materials, composites, or additive manufacturing
- Experience with structural sizing via hand calculations, FEA (Nastran), or multi-physics software
- Experience supporting coupon, subscale, or assembly-level testing for development and qualification
- Experience designing for cross-discipline impact (aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, thermal management)
- Experience integrating mechanical systems with sensors, actuators, and embedded control hardware
- Programming experience (Python, MATLAB, C++) for analytical modeling and simulation
