BinSentry is a fast-growing AgTech company based in Kitchener, Ontario, focused on providing solutions for the agriculture supply chain. The company uses artificial intelligence, optical sensors, and software to help feed mills and protein producers enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve profitability. BinSentry currently monitors over 64,000 bins in real time across North America.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of mechanical subsystems and drive the design and development of electro-mechanical hardware solutions. This is a hands-on role that bridges mechanical and electrical engineering, requiring someone excited to push technology limits and create systems for the Mill of the Future.
Key responsibilities include:
- Create mechanical part designs using Solidworks
- Prototype parts using 3D printers and machine shops
- Perform hands-on assembly of prototype systems
- Create, specify, and perform verification and validation testing
- Ensure compliance with standards such as IEC 61010, UL1203, and IEC60079
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers for system integration
- Create work instructions and train production personnel
- Guide systems through the certification process
- Design and run environmental chamber tests for system reliability
- Drive design decisions, manage trade-offs, and triage root-cause issues from prototype through production phases
The role involves working with prototype machine shops and vendors, managing medium-volume production environments, and demonstrating the ability to bring designs from concept to mass production.
Requirements:
- Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering degree
- 5+ years of experience designing electro-mechanical systems
- Thorough understanding of Solidworks
- Experience working with prototype machine shops and vendors based in Asia
- Good grasp of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Experience with medium-volume production environments
- Demonstrated ability to bring designs from concept to mass production
- Demonstrated track record of technical ownership in ambiguous problem environments with clear examples of decisions made and outcomes delivered
- Bonus: Valid P.Eng License or pursuing P.Eng License
