Sparrow Quantum, a Danish quantum technology company, is seeking an experienced Materials Scientist to join the Fab & Growth team at the Niels Bohr Building in Copenhagen. You will develop and implement wafer growth processes using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) methods, ensuring the highest material quality for quantum dot applications. Working closely with technical leads and cross-functional teams, you will coordinate scientific development across epitaxy, nanofabrication, quantum dot characterization, and numerical modeling to advance Sparrow's quantum computing technology. Key responsibilities include: developing wafer-scale epitaxy processes in collaboration with nanofabrication and characterization teams; building capabilities to analyze and test new devices; implementing and documenting processes, operating procedures, tests, and specifications; tracking process variation and capability to drive continuous improvement; performing MBE maintenance and troubleshooting; and fostering cross-team collaboration. You will contribute to scientific publications and patents, represent the company at conferences, and work in a high-performance team of motivated professionals at the intersection of research and industry. The role offers a steep learning curve in a supportive environment, flexible working hours (up to 10–20% remote), paid lunch, travel opportunities to collaborators, and clear pathways for growth into project leadership, operations, or strategy roles. Interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis with shortlisted candidates invited for in-person interviews in Copenhagen; travel and accommodation are covered. REQUIREMENTS: Must-Have: - PhD in physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, or similar discipline - Hands-on experience with UHV (ultra-high vacuum) systems, various pumps, and their maintenance - Proven track record working with molecular beam epitaxy systems - Deep understanding of epitaxial growth, preferably with III-V based materials - Experience in basic sample characterization (SEM, AFM, XRD, TEM) - Curiosity and desire to investigate issues and perfect results - Willingness to collaborate and deliver results in a clear, structured manner - Strong focus on final goals, self-discipline, and prioritization Nice-to-Have: - Experience with advanced characterization techniques (photoluminescence, transport measurements at 4K via van der Pauw method) - Knowledge of coding/AI implementation for data extraction and analysis - Basic knowledge of fabrication tools (scriber, wet benches, asher, optical microscopes, spinners)
