Saronic Technologies is developing autonomous surface vessels for maritime defense. This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on outfitting detail planning—translating design packages for joinery, safety equipment, and metal outfitting into detailed work instructions that sequence installation correctly during ship construction. The role covers a wide scope including manholes, ladders, independent tanks, windows, walkways, handrails, joiner bulkheads, doors, and life-saving equipment. Outfitting touches nearly every space on the vessel and must be coordinated around structure, access, and work by other trades (structural, piping, electrical, HVAC, coatings). Success means ensuring items install in the correct sequence without blocking access for other trades or requiring rework. Key responsibilities include: - Developing detailed work instructions and installation sequences for metal outfitting, joinery, and safety/life-saving equipment - Determining installation sequence and method relative to structural closure, coatings, and other outfitting - Translating arrangement drawings, joiner plans, and vendor data into clear instructions for mechanics and joiners - Planning compartment and zone completion strategy in coordination with structural, piping, electrical, HVAC, and coatings teams - Sequencing tank closures, manhole/access cover coordination, and ladder/walkway/handrail installation - Identifying and resolving constructability issues and interferences before they reach the production floor - Ensuring work instructions comply with applicable codes and class requirements (ABS, USCG, NAVSEA) for life safety, means of egress, and penetration integrity - Supporting first-article installations and refining instructions based on floor feedback - Maintaining outfitting planning documentation and standards across the program Success is measured by correct sequencing without rework, proper coordination of tank closures and access covers, minimized rework from out-of-sequence installation, and meeting life safety requirements without late-stage changes. QUALIFICATIONS Required: - Hands-on experience in shipyard outfitting (outfitting mechanic, joiner, or metal fabricator/installer) or equivalent planning experience built on that trade background - Understanding of metal outfitting fabrication and installation practices (ladders, walkways, handrails, manholes, independent tanks) and joinery installation methods - Working knowledge of how ships are built, including unit/block construction, erection sequence, and zone outfitting - Ability to read arrangement drawings, joiner plans, 3D models, and vendor/equipment data - Strong organizational skills to manage a wide, varied scope across many compartments in parallel Preferred: - Experience in new construction shipbuilding; repair/overhaul experience also considered - Familiarity with how safety/life-saving equipment is specified and installed to meet regulatory requirements - Experience with PLM/ERP systems such as Teamcenter or SAP - Familiarity with ABS, USCG, or NAVSEA requirements as they apply to outfitting, life safety, and means of egress - Technical/trade school, associate's, or bachelor's degree in a relevant field
