Torus is building the world's first mesh energy infrastructure—resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power systems that unite communities. The company designs, engineers, manufactures, installs, and supports systems end-to-end, helping reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages while strengthening grid security and reliability. Torus has raised over $267 million from investors including Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ, and Origin Ventures, and operates a 545,000-square-foot manufacturing facility called GigaOne in Salt Lake City.
The Manufacturing Engineer - Machining & Fabrication will be a key player in setting up and improving machining and precision-manufacturing processes for Torus's BESS (Torus Pulse) and FESS (Torus Spin) products. The role focuses on machined components, fixture and workholding design, dimensional quality, and process automation. You will design and build fixtures, jigs, and workholding; develop and optimize CNC machining processes; establish inspection methods using CMM programming and GD&T; automate manufacturing processes; and support adjacent fabrication activities. As a startup, the role may require work outside typical duties.
Key responsibilities include: designing and fabricating fixtures and workholding for machining, assembly, and inspection; developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting CNC processes (milling, turning, etc.); specifying and implementing machine tools, tooling, automated machinery, and robotics; establishing and maintaining inspection methods and gauge design; evaluating manufacturing processes through capability studies and validation; developing manufacturing processes through research and vendor collaboration; improving efficiency through workflow and layout analysis; designing in-process and automated inspection; identifying automation opportunities; developing and implementing PLC-, PC-, or microcontroller-based automation systems; calculating production, labor, and material costs; leading Design for Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives; and supporting product development.
The position is full-time, salaried, based at Torus's GigaOne facility and South Salt Lake R&D location in Salt Lake City, UT.
