1X is building humanoid robots (NEO) designed to operate safely in home environments. The Manufacturing & Production team transforms engineering designs into scalable, repeatable, high-quality production processes, bridging product development and manufacturing across machining, electromechanical assembly, automation, quality, supply chain, and production operations.
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will own manufacturing processes for critical robotic components and assemblies, taking products from prototype through production. Your focus will be developing robust machining, assembly, inspection, and validation processes that improve quality, throughput, and repeatability while supporting rapid product iteration. You will directly impact production readiness, hardware quality, manufacturing efficiency, and the long-term scalability of 1X robotic systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and release manufacturing processes that consistently deliver high-quality robotic components and assemblies at scale
- Improve cycle time, first-pass yield, and process reliability through structured continuous improvement initiatives
- Design and deploy fixtures, tooling, CAM programs, inspection methods, and automation solutions that increase manufacturing efficiency
- Support NPI programs from prototype builds through production ramp while maintaining manufacturing readiness
- Establish and maintain process controls, quality metrics, and documentation that ensure repeatable production performance
You will work across engineering, quality, operations, and supply chain teams. The role requires strong manufacturing engineering fundamentals, deep understanding of DFM and production scaling, analytical skills with SPC and quality systems, and a hands-on mindset that moves effectively between factory floor and technical design discussions.
1X values builders who move fast, own their work completely, and treat time as precious. Successful Manufacturing Engineers here are highly execution-oriented, deeply connected to the factory floor, solve problems quickly, drive continuous improvement, and take ownership of outcomes from prototype through production.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience supporting precision mechanical or electromechanical products
- Experience with CAM programming, fixture design, tooling development, and precision machining processes
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and production process development
- Experience integrating electromechanical assemblies into production environments
- Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, CMM inspection, and precision measurement techniques
- Experience collaborating with design engineering, quality, production, and supply chain organizations
- Proficiency with CAD tools, PLM systems, ERP systems, and manufacturing documentation workflows
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience manufacturing robotic actuators, joints, motion-control systems, or other precision electromechanical products
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments with rapid design iteration
- Familiarity with automation, lights-out machining, or advanced manufacturing technologies
- Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or structured continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience supporting factory layout development, workstation design, and material flow optimization
- Experience supporting products through NPI, validation builds, and production ramp-up activities
