Salary: USD 111,300 - 204,090 / annual
Divergent is building advanced manufacturing systems and capital equipment for automotive OEMs and aerospace/defense companies. This manufacturing development engineering role focuses on productionizing and scaling internally developed advanced manufacturing equipment, including laser powder bed fusion machines and automated assembly systems.
You will serve as the primary manufacturing development engineering owner for critical factory modules, subsystems, and processes. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop deep technical understanding of assigned systems, including architecture, operating modes, controls, interfaces, failure modes, and interactions
- Own manufacturing readiness from development through build, commissioning, validation, qualification, and production handoff
- Lead development and continuous improvement of work instructions, standard operating procedures, test procedures, and process documentation
- Lead complex troubleshooting, root cause corrective action (RCCA), and corrective action implementation to improve machine reliability, uptime, quality, and repeatability
- Partner with design engineering, automation, software, operations, quality, supply chain, and R&D to improve manufacturability and execution
- Drive design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), tolerance, process capability, tooling, fixture, and cycle time improvements
- Support design changes through PLM, configuration management, change control, implementation planning, and production cut-in
- Mentor engineers and technicians while raising standards for ownership, technical rigor, documentation quality, and follow-through
The role translates complex machine technology from proof of concept to repeatable, reliable, and scalable manufacturing execution. Work environment includes office and factory settings.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology subject to U.S. export controls
- 1+ years of relevant experience (Engineer II level), 5+ years (Senior level), or 7+ years (Staff level)
- Demonstrated ownership of complex areas
- Strong experience in technical troubleshooting, RCCA, high-quality technical documentation, and/or manufacturing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with capital equipment or low-volume production
- Demonstrated ability to architect and deliver custom capital equipment or industrial automation systems
- Experience with PLM, MES, configuration management, change control
- Experience with tooling, fixtures, calibration tools, or test equipment
