Affirm is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering for the Loans Lifecycle team within the Ledger Engineering organization. The Ledger Engineering team builds an audit-grade ledger platform that enables rapid financial product innovation while maintaining the accounting controls required by a highly regulated industry. The team focuses on robust, fault-tolerant, highly scalable systems that ensure on-time and precise accuracy in all financial interactions with consumers and institutional finance partners. In this role, you will set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale and connect it to critical, business-impacting projects. You will collaborate across product development teams—working with product management, design, and analytics—to ensure technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are well understood and managed. You will act as a force-multiplier for your team by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes. You will own your team's operations and availability by establishing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting to support on-call efforts and keep systems running reliably. You will foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, advocating for them across the organization through writing and tech talks, and developing talent on your team through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. The Ledger Engineering team partners with finance to support everything from closing monthly books to annual audits, bridging the technical gap between data, strategy, and the accounting detail required to operate a publicly-traded company. The team also partners with Capital Markets to provide forensic-level reporting for investors. **Requirements:** - 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin - 2+ years of experience managing a software team - Extensive track record developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes - Experience in financial systems, ledgering, treasury, or adjacent domains where data accuracy and system reliability are critical - Ability to manage high-performance teams by growing the team, coaching engineers, and aligning stakeholders - Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with global engineering teams - Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
