Parloa is an agentic AI platform that powers enterprise customer experience at scale, having processed over one billion customer interactions for brands like Booking.com, HealthEquity, Allianz, SAP, and TUI.
As Manager of Forward Deployed Engineering, you will lead a high-impact team of field engineers (FDEs) responsible for delivering Parloa's most strategic enterprise deployments. Your core mission is ensuring predictable delivery, strong engineering quality, and rapid unblocking in complex enterprise environments while maintaining your own technical credibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, hire, coach, and develop a team of FDEs; establish clear expectations and run regular 1:1s, feedback cycles, and performance development
- Own capacity planning and staffing across parallel strategic projects; manage utilization and anticipate delivery bottlenecks
- Drive project delivery management across deployments, including milestones, dependencies, risk management, escalation paths, and stakeholder alignment
- Implement lightweight time tracking and delivery visibility systems that provide trusted insight into effort and progress without bureaucratic overhead
- Provide technical leadership and escalation support; guide architecture and implementation choices, review designs and code, and unblock high-severity production issues
- Build scalable field engineering practices, including reusable patterns, playbooks, and standards that improve reliability and speed across deployments
- Translate recurring customer needs into productization proposals and partner with Product and Core Engineering to reduce one-offs
- Collaborate directly with customer engineering teams and enterprise stakeholders (architecture, security, platform) to deliver outcomes and build long-term technical trust
Tech Stack: TypeScript, Node.js, OpenAI, Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, MongoDB, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, MCP
Requirements:
- 8+ years in software engineering, systems integration, DevOps, or data engineering with meaningful production responsibility
- Proven ability to lead and develop engineers (formal management, team lead responsibility, coaching, hiring, performance growth)
- Demonstrated success delivering complex technical projects in large enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders and constraints
- Strong technical breadth and depth across backend engineering, APIs, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and databases; able to review designs and guide production decisions
- Hands-on effectiveness: able to personally own and drive smaller technical workstreams end-to-end and jump into debugging/implementation when necessary
- Strong planning, prioritization, capacity thinking, and risk management; creates delivery clarity without unnecessary process overhead
- Confident and credible communication with customer engineering teams and senior technical stakeholders; clear written and verbal communication
- Strong plus: experience building or integrating AI/LLM-powered systems (agent workflows, orchestration, evaluation, vector databases, guardrails), ideally in forward-deployed or solutions engineering environments
