6sense is seeking a Manager of Engineering to lead a team of 6–12 engineers in Bengaluru. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, focusing on delivery excellence, technical rigor, and team development in an AI-assisted engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Delivery & Execution
- Lead sprint planning, dependency management, risk identification, and release readiness for your team
- Sequence work across people and AI-assisted workflows, moving beyond story-point estimation
- Maintain current JIRA, ProductBoard, and dependency tracking; eliminate stale tickets and surprises
- Own cycle-time and escaped-defect trends, not just point-in-time metrics
Technical Leadership
- Review code and AI-generated output for correctness and problem-fit; clean tests alone are insufficient
- Define what requires human sign-off, what warrants spot-checking, and what needs a second pass
- Write specifications that function as contracts: clear scope, explicit constraints, stated boundaries
- Stay engaged with architecture decisions, technical debt, and incident response
- Contribute to software architecture decisions and patent writing for innovative work
People & Development
- Conduct 1:1s focused on growth and career development, not sprint status
- Coach engineers on evaluating and trusting AI output; model critical thinking explicitly
- Deliver clear, timely feedback; build development plans; address performance issues early
- Help your team develop AI-collaboration as a learnable skill
- Participate in hiring panels, provide written feedback, and contribute to calibration discussions
Cross-Functional & Culture
- Partner with Product and Design; maintain definition-of-ready and surface risks early
- Engage escalations directly; produce RCAs; own P1/P2 support SLAs
- Set team tone: accountability, directness, recognition
- Monitor workload and wellbeing signals proactively
- Lead by influence across teams and functions; drive cross-team technical decisions without direct authority
Requirements:
- 10+ years in software engineering, including 2+ years managing teams of 5 or more
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Architectural depth to evaluate tradeoffs, including AI-assisted output
- Background in platform, API, data, or infrastructure engineering
- Fluency with JIRA, ProductBoard, or equivalent; comfortable in PM/Design pod environments
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, design patterns, and object-oriented programming
- Proficiency in Python or Java with depth to engage meaningfully in code review and design
- Strong foundation in distributed systems, data pipelines, or APIs
What Sets You Apart:
- Experience running a platform or infrastructure team where other engineers are your customers
- Track record coaching an IC through a meaningful promotion with concrete examples
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering workflows and practical approaches to output review
- Cross-timezone collaboration experience
- Ability to adopt frameworks before they are perfect
