Harmattan AI is a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following a $200M Series B at $1.4B valuation, the company is expanding teams to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces.
As an ML Research Engineer in the Visual Navigation team, you will join at an early stage to heavily influence technical direction. Operating from Paris, Lausanne, or Zurich, you will develop Machine Learning models enabling drones to navigate on the battlefield, with responsibilities spanning data curation, model architecture definition, and onboard inference optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop deep learning models to analyze drone environments across multiple modalities and enable localization through time and space
- Embed models on heterogeneous platforms with limited compute; optimize trade-offs between model speed and accuracy to minimize pipeline latency
- Partner with VIO, Navigation, and Embedded Software teams to build robust, real-time localization pipelines; communicate technical trade-offs clearly to stakeholders
- Stay at the forefront of Deep Learning research trends and introduce cutting-edge methodologies to the team
- Build, modify, and manage training, evaluation, and MLOps pipelines with reproducibility, robust logging, and version control
- Actively participate in real-world flight tests; analyze in-field failures to iterate and improve deployed models
Requirements:
- Strong academic record with a STEM degree (Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Mathematics, or equivalent)
- Proven track record researching and productizing Deep Learning models for Computer Vision in industry (Drones, Robotics, Autonomous Vehicles, or similar domains)
- Proficiency in Python and Deep Learning frameworks (PyTorch/Lightning)
- Experience with MLOps and edge deployment optimization
- Highly structured, analytical, and research-oriented mindset
- Excellent communication skills; ability to translate complex algorithmic benchmarking to downstream users and stakeholders
- Thrives in fast-paced environments with hands-on, "no-task-is-too-small" mentality
- 100% commitment to the company's mission and operational excellence
