Salary: USD 140,000 - 265,000 / annual

As a Machine Learning Engineer on the Search Quality team, you will work on systems across the stack including query understanding, document understanding, domain-adapted language models, natural language question-answering, evaluation, and experimentation. You'll collaborate closely with customers to understand pain points and deploy solutions ranging from simple to complex.
Key responsibilities include:
- Inventing new signals to improve search engine personalization
- Training models to capture interactions between signals in the ranking system
- Designing methods to domain-adapt language models to each customer's corpus
- Discovering new ways to combine LLMs with search engines for complex question-answering
- Writing robust, maintainable, and testable production code
- Mentoring junior engineers or learning from experienced team members
You'll work in a customer-focused, cross-functional environment where taking ownership of both small tasks and large features is essential. The role is hybrid, requiring 4 days per week in the San Francisco office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of professional experience
- BA/BS in computer science, math, sciences, or related field
- Experience with search, recommendation systems, natural language processing, or large-scale machine learning systems
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work with data
- Proven ability to design, build, and ship production-ready models
- Proficiency in an ML framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)
- Strong coding skills in Python, Go, Java, C++, or similar languages
- Ability to thrive in a customer-focused, tight-knit, cross-functional team environment
- Proactive, positive attitude with ownership mindset for both small and large initiatives
