Bobyard is automating construction takeoffs and estimates using computer vision and NLP, enabling contractors to bid faster and win more work. The company raised a $35M Series A led by 8VC and is scaling rapidly. You will be Bobyard's first legal hire, serving as the central point person for all legal matters. Key responsibilities: - Serve as the single point of contact for all legal requests: triage, route, and track matters to closure - Negotiate and redline customer agreements (MSAs, order forms, DPAs, NDAs) within established playbooks; escalate complex matters to outside counsel as needed - Manage relationships with outside counsel, scope work, and track legal spend - Maintain current, version-controlled contract templates as pricing and processes evolve - Partner with Product to ensure terms of service, privacy policy, and in-product terms remain accurate - Analyze contract terms for data-privacy, security, and commercial risk; provide leadership with clear recommendations - Build scalable legal systems including intake processes, clause playbooks, and contract management workflows Success metrics: Sales teams never wait on legal approvals, and every legal matter has a single owner with clear next steps. Requirements: - 0–3 years of experience in legal operations, commercial contracts, or transactional legal practice - Hands-on experience redlining or negotiating contracts (not just observing) - Ability to make decisions with incomplete information and sound judgment on when to escalate - Capacity to respectfully decline requests from salespeople or opposing counsel while maintaining relationships - Strong written communication and ability to manage multiple concurrent matters Nice to have: - Juris Doctor (JD) degree - California bar admission - Experience with SaaS agreements, Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), or privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA); CIPP/US certification is a plus - Familiarity with Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) tools - Prior startup experience or background at firms serving startups
