As Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance across the fintech sector, with particular focus on payments, e-money, and consumer credit products. You'll ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate legal risks across the organization.
Key responsibilities:
- Product development support: Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and product teams to design and launch new products and services in Payments and Consumer Credit (including BNPL), integrating technical and legal considerations.
- Risk assessment & management: Identify legal and regulatory risks, propose mitigation strategies aligned with organizational risk appetite.
- Regulatory compliance: Advise on financial regulatory requirements including PSD2, AML/KYC, e-money regulations (EMRs), and CCD2, ensuring adherence across operations.
- Stakeholder management: Act as trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing pragmatic legal guidance and fostering legal awareness across the organization.
The role is based in Luxembourg with a hybrid working policy (three days per week in-office: Tuesday, Thursday, plus one day of your choice). Relocation support is provided.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualified lawyer with minimum 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE); ideally 8–10 years total professional legal experience.
- Deep knowledge of financial and consumer credit regulations: PSD2, AML/KYC, EMRs, CCD2.
- Demonstrable track record in Fintech and Payments, ideally with experience in both private practice and in-house settings.
- Analytical mindset with ability to dive deep into complex legal issues and make sound risk-based decisions.
- Clear understanding of basic technology and engineering processes in Fintech, Payments, and consumer lending; prior experience working with technical teams is a significant plus.
- Ability to balance legal risks with commercial considerations.
- English fluency (written and spoken) is essential; Italian or French language knowledge is a plus.
