As Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance across the fintech sector, with particular focus on payments, e-money, and consumer credit products. You will advise on regulatory, contractual, and product-related matters to ensure compliance and mitigate legal and regulatory risks. Key responsibilities include: - Product Development Support: Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and product teams to design and launch new products and services in payments and consumer credit (such as BNPL), integrating technical and engineering considerations into legal analysis. - Risk Assessment & Management: Identify legal and regulatory risks, propose effective mitigation strategies aligned with organizational risk appetite, and safeguard the organization. - Regulatory Compliance: Advise on relevant financial regulatory requirements including PSD2, AML/KYC, e-money regulations (EMRs), and CCD2, ensuring adherence across the organization. - Stakeholder Management: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, provide pragmatic legal guidance, and foster a culture of legal awareness across the organization. The role is hybrid, requiring three days per week in-office (Tuesday, Thursday, plus one day of your choice), with flexibility to request additional remote time. Relocation to the Luxembourg office is required. QUALIFICATIONS: - Qualified lawyer with minimum 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE); ideally 8–10 years total professional legal experience - Deep knowledge of financial and consumer credit regulations (PSD2, AML/KYC, EMRs, CCD2) - Demonstrable track record in fintech and payments, ideally with experience in both private practice and in-house settings - Analytical mindset with ability to dive deep into complex legal issues, exercise strong judgment, and make sound risk-based decisions - Clear understanding of basic technology and engineering processes in fintech, payments, and consumer lending; prior experience working with technical teams is a significant plus - Ability to balance legal risks with commercial considerations - Essential: English fluency (written and spoken) - Desirable: Knowledge of Italian or French
