As Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal guidance across the fintech sector, with particular focus on payments, e-money, and consumer credit products. You will ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate legal risks across the organization. Key responsibilities include: • Product Development Support: Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and product teams to design and launch new products and services in payments and consumer credit (including BNPL), integrating technical considerations into legal analysis. • Risk Assessment & Management: Identify legal and regulatory risks, propose effective mitigation strategies aligned with organizational risk appetite, and safeguard the company. • Regulatory Compliance: Advise on financial regulatory requirements including PSD2, AML/KYC, e-money regulations (EMRs), and CCD2, ensuring full adherence. • Stakeholder Management: Act as trusted advisor to senior leadership, provide pragmatic legal guidance, and foster a culture of legal awareness across the organization. The role is hybrid, requiring three days per week in-office (Tuesday, Thursday, plus one day of your choice), with flexibility to request additional remote time. REQUIREMENTS: - Qualified lawyer with minimum 5 years post-qualification experience (PQE); ideally 8–10 years total professional legal experience - Deep knowledge of financial and consumer credit regulations: PSD2, AML/KYC, EMRs, CCD2 - Demonstrable track record in fintech and payments, ideally with experience in both private practice and in-house roles - Strong analytical mindset; ability to dive deep into complex legal issues and make sound risk-based decisions - Clear understanding of basic technology and engineering processes in fintech, payments, and consumer lending; prior experience working with technical teams is a significant plus - Ability to balance legal risks with commercial considerations - English fluency (written and spoken) is essential; Italian or French language knowledge is a plus
