Scopely, a leading mobile games company, is seeking a Lead UX Designer to join the Star Trek Fleet Command team in Dublin on a hybrid basis. Star Trek Fleet Command is a top-grossing 4X Strategy MMO launched in 2018 that continues to evolve and engage millions of players globally.
In this role, you will set design standards, best practices, and strategic UX vision for the game, defining craft direction across complex 4X systems. You will own and champion complete, aspirational UX for new features and player experiences, transforming complex product requirements into intuitive, engaging flows. Your responsibilities include building deep knowledge of the game to step into the player's shoes and ground design decisions in real player perspectives.
You will find relevant references and competitive analysis, deconstructing them to uncover inspiration and common pitfalls. You'll visualize ideas by producing design deliverables including sketches, low to medium fidelity wireframes, user flows, and interactive UX prototypes. You will identify weak points in designs, gaps in thinking, and opportunities to better deliver on goals through critical thinking and sharp design judgment.
Collaboration is central to this role: you will work closely with product teams, game designers, and artists to refine ideas and stay aligned throughout development. You'll proactively share work, keep stakeholders informed, and provide relevant information when needed. You will leverage feedback, data, and insights to refine designs intentionally, and support long-term product and UX consistency by drawing on developed knowledge of design principles and patterns.
This is a leadership position with mentorship and team development responsibilities. You will guide and develop team members, review work to maintain high craft quality, and manage performance effectively.
Requirements:
- Proven track record of leadership in Game UX with extensive experience designing for complex, deep systems in live-service F2P games (4X or strategy experience highly preferred)
- Strong mentorship and leadership capabilities with experience guiding and developing team members, reviewing work to maintain high craft quality, and managing performance effectively
- Solutions-oriented mindset that goes beyond identifying problems, bringing thoughtful, creative problem solving
- Strong understanding of game development norms and pipelines, including how to design with technical constraints, implementation realities, and cross-discipline workflows
- Fit for a culture built on curiosity, improvement, creativity, and collaboration, paired with genuine passion for both playing and making games that fuels thoughtful, player-centered design
