CSC Generation, a retail and lifestyle platform company, is seeking a Software Engineer (Team Lead) to own a core service area within their retail service cloud. You will serve as the technical owner for your domain, responsible for end-to-end architecture decisions, production code contribution, and mentoring junior engineers while driving the roadmap from legacy modernization through new feature delivery.
In this hybrid role based in San Jose, Costa Rica, you will report to the Chief Growth Officer and work on a lean, high-output team. You'll have full ownership of your service area with minimal bureaucracy—moving fast and making decisions with complete end-to-end responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as technical owner for your service area, setting architecture direction and maintaining quality standards
- Design, build, and ship features daily alongside the team, reading and writing production code
- Identify and resolve technical challenges across the stack, including profiling, refactoring, and platform scaling
- Replace legacy code and services with modern, maintainable solutions
- Build reusable frameworks and patterns for upcoming projects across the portfolio
- Plan and communicate product roadmaps, triage sprint work, and push back on requests when technical tradeoffs demand it
- Mentor junior engineers through code review, pairing, and hands-on problem solving
- Contribute to hiring decisions and help build the engineering team
The role emphasizes hands-on technical leadership: you remain a significant individual contributor while elevating the engineers around you. Success in your first 6–12 months means shipping meaningful platform improvements, replacing targeted legacy services, and establishing clear technical standards the team follows.
Requirements:
- Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript/JavaScript, React, and Node.js
- Production experience with AWS services: API Gateway, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB
- Proficiency with IAM and CloudWatch for debugging and least-privilege design
- Experience with Python and Django or comparable server-side frameworks
- Demonstrated track record of owning a product or service area technically (architecture decisions, code quality, delivery outcomes)
- Proven ability to mentor and elevate other engineers while remaining a significant individual contributor
- Experience replacing or modernizing legacy systems in production environments
- Comfort triaging competing priorities, planning sprints, and communicating technical details to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong opinions on code quality and engineering best practices, held loosely enough to find collaborative solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with retail, e-commerce, or multi-brand platform environments
- Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and microservices patterns
- Prior experience in a technical lead role on a small, high-output team
