Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in packet forwarding to join their EOS (Extensible Operating System) team. You will collaborate with customers, product management, and engineers to design and build novel packet forwarding features that enable networks to run effectively and efficiently. In this role, you will develop deep expertise in packet forwarding architecture and apply it to solve complex customer problems. You will design packet forwarding flows, architect data structures and algorithms to render forwarding state for efficiency and scale, and integrate these components with higher-layer systems. You will tackle multi-dimensional challenges such as minimizing downtime during software upgrades on switches or rendering routing tables with over 1 million routes across forwarding chips on routers with hundreds of forwarding engines. Key responsibilities include: - Interfacing with customers and product management to define packet forwarding features and solutions - Architecting, designing, and managing feature development end-to-end - Developing and maintaining features using C, C++, and Python; reviewing and contributing to functional and design specifications - Building automated tests and test infrastructure - Providing technical leadership across features, projects, and tools - Working with Customer Support Engineers and customers to analyze, mitigate, and fix production network problems - Collaborating with System Test Engineers to resolve issues and deliver fixes - Mentoring junior engineers in Arista's software development environment Arista values a supportive, growth-oriented culture with opportunities for expanded responsibilities and expertise development. Requirements: - BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 6+ years of experience; OR MS with 4+ years; OR PhD with 3+ years; OR equivalent work experience - Expert knowledge of C or C++ and Python - Knowledge of UNIX or Linux - Experience working with packet forwarding chips and pipelines - Understanding of IP networking and/or distributed systems - Understanding and ability to apply software engineering principles - Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills - Demonstrated technical leadership, strong communication skills, and ability to work in small team environments - Ability to design solutions and implement features independently
