JustPark is a unified parking platform combining B2B solutions for destinations and B2C services for drivers. The company merged ParkHub (US event parking) and JustPark (UK parking marketplace) to offer end-to-end parking solutions for venues, councils, private operators, and consumers.
You will lead the engineering team building and maintaining Oobeo and EnforcePlus—production platforms powering digital permits, valet management, on-demand parking payments, and enforcement across US parking operators, municipalities, universities, and hospitals. This is a player-coach role: you are the most senior engineer on the codebase and the engineering manager for the team.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership & Team Management: Manage the Oobeo engineering team, set priorities, run standups, conduct code reviews, remove blockers, and drive execution. Mentor engineers, establish standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and deployment. Own hiring, onboarding, and performance management. Collaborate with product, client success, and commercial teams to translate customer needs into technical plans. Communicate technical status, risks, and tradeoffs to non-technical leadership.
AI Tooling & Team Adoption: Act as the team's power user of Claude Code and similar AI-paired development tools. Build shared AI infrastructure (module-level CLAUDE.md documentation, skills, code review patterns). Bring the engineering team along on AI adoption—set norms, run pairing sessions, propagate best practices. Use AI tooling to accelerate hardening, testing, and modernization work.
Platform Ownership: Serve as technical lead for the entire Oobeo platform: Django monolith (AWS), React frontend, React Native mobile apps (iOS/Android), and GCP serverless applications. Own system architecture decisions, technology stack direction, and development standards. Support Django version upgrades and codebase modernizations. Maintain and improve production stability, performance, and security.
Development & Technical Execution: Write and review code across the full stack—Python/Django backend, React/TypeScript admin and consumer web, React Native mobile. Build and extend API endpoints using Django REST Framework. Manage PostgreSQL databases (schema navigation, query optimization, migrations). Maintain and extend payment integrations (Stripe Connect, Authorize.net, Square Mobile Payments SDK) with PCI DSS compliance awareness. Maintain real-time communication systems (Pusher/WebSockets, Twilio SMS and Voice IVR).
Infrastructure & DevOps: Manage AWS infrastructure (Elastic Beanstalk, RDS, S3, CloudFront, Route 53) and Google Cloud Platform resources. Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to replace manual infrastructure management. Own CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes. Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and incident response. Manage Docker containerization and deployment workflows.
Integrations: Own third-party integrations. Manage Twilio phone number provisioning, webhook configuration, and SMS workflows across customer locations.
Quality & Testing: Establish and build out automated testing (pytest-django, factory_boy) on a codebase with minimal existing test coverage. Define and enforce development standards, code review practices, and technical documentation.
Tech Stack: The platform is a production Django application with React frontend, React Native mobile apps, and integrations with payment processors, hotel property management systems, SMS providers, and license plate recognition systems. Infrastructure runs on AWS (Elastic Beanstalk) and Google Cloud (serverless).
Requirements:
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience
- Expert-level Python/Django; has shipped and maintained Django in production for 5+ years
- Django REST Framework (serializers, viewsets, OAuth2 token flows)
- PostgreSQL: complex schema navigation, query optimization, migration management
- React/TypeScript: strong working proficiency
- React Native: working proficiency for iOS and Android mobile apps
- Redis: caching and task queue patterns (Celery)
- AWS Elastic Beanstalk or equivalent AWS deployment experience; must manage infrastructure configs without existing IaC scaffolding
- Google Cloud Platform: serverless application management
- CI/CD (CloudBees, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent); has owned a pipeline end to end
- Payment gateway integration: Stripe (Connect, PaymentIntent, webhooks) required; Authorize.net a strong plus
- PCI DSS awareness: understands compliant payment handling
- Test Driven Development culture and experience
- Docker/containerization
- Has demonstrably owned a legacy production codebase end-to-end
- Experience managing or leading a small engineering team: setting priorities, running sprints, conducting code reviews, mentoring engineers
- Comfortable as the most senior engineer on a product: sets standards, makes architectural calls, builds alongside the team
- Can context-switch between backend, frontend, mobile, infrastructure, and integrations work
- Clear communicator who can explain technical decisions and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working in or with PE-backed, high-growth, or startup environments preferred
Good to Have: Terraform or equivalent Infrastructure as Code; real-time systems (Pusher, WebSockets); Twilio (SMS, Voice IVR); Square Mobile Payments SDK; Bluetooth printer integration (Zebra, ZPL formatting); modern testing practices and hardening code into production-stable systems; hospitality or parking tech background; App Store Connect (iOS) and Google Play Console (Android) deployment experience; monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, Sentry).
