Salary: USD 150,000 - 220,000 / annual
Kalepa is building AI systems for the insurance industry, helping underwriters and claims professionals make better decisions. The company's products are already in production with leading insurers, and the platform is expanding across new functions and lines of business.
As Lead Product Designer, you will own design for the platform's most complex, cross-cutting problems. You'll work from discovery and research through delivery and iteration, turning ambiguous problems into clear product direction. You'll partner closely with product managers, engineers, the Head of Product, and the current Lead Designer to shape both what gets built and how it looks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading design for complex, cross-cutting problems across the platform
- Translating ambiguous business areas into clear product direction by balancing user needs and business goals
- Designing data-dense workflows that help underwriters find and act on critical information with confidence
- Defining how AI surfaces in the product: communicating confidence levels, surfacing sources, and keeping underwriters in control
- Establishing scalable design patterns to support growth across new lines of business without fragmenting the user experience
- Using AI and rapid prototyping tools to move quickly from concept to validated design
- Raising design standards across the team through critique, mentorship, and shared design principles

**Requirements:**
- 7+ years of experience designing digital products for B2B, data-rich, or productivity tool companies
- Experience working in a rapidly scaling startup environment with an ownership mentality
- Experience designing AI-driven tools
- Experience taking an existing platform and generalizing/scaling the UX to support new and expanding workflows
- Strong portfolio demonstrating ability to simplify complexity, design thoughtful UIs, and apply clear interaction patterns
- Systems thinking with experience shaping and contributing to design systems
- Strong visual design skills with attention to information hierarchy, interaction, and layout
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; proactive, responsive, and eager for feedback
- Curious and adaptable mindset; comfortable solving ambiguous problems
**Bonus qualifications:**
- Experience with MUI (Material UI) or similar design systems
- InsurTech, FinTech, or other highly-regulated industry experience
- Technical background or interest in how products are built
