Allica Bank is the UK's fastest-growing fintech firm, focused on serving established SMEs underserved by traditional banks and modern fintechs. The company is now expanding into Sweden and seeking a founding Lead Platform Engineer to establish the technical foundation for Allica Bank Sweden's cloud self-service platform.
In this hands-on role, you will report directly to the CTO and work closely with the UK Platform Engineering Team on shared standards and tooling. You'll be personally accountable for adapting Allica's proven UK tech stack to meet Sweden's regulatory, compliance, and operational requirements. While the UK stack provides a strong starting point, significant adaptation and development will be needed, and you will make consequential technical decisions independently from day one.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning Allica Sweden's platform instance, adapting the UK stack for Sweden including landing zones, subscriptions, network topology, container runtime, and resilience patterns
- Building reusable core infrastructure through Terraform modules, deployment templates, and platform services that enable product teams to self-serve production-grade infrastructure
- Delivering all infrastructure through Terraform and secure CI/CD pipelines, ensuring every change is automated, repeatable, and reversible
- Embedding security, governance, and compliance into the platform with auditable evidence
- Owning reliability and run costs, leading incident response for complex issues, and driving out root causes
- Leading and mentoring platform engineers while remaining hands-on in architecture and solving the hardest technical problems
You'll operate in startup mode with significant ownership and a fast-moving environment. Your customers are internal: product and data engineering teams choose whether to adopt what you build, so adoption metrics drive success.
Requirements:
- Strong track record architecting and running production cloud environments at scale with production accountability for systems that matter
- Extensive cloud experience, primarily with Azure and secondary experience with GCP
- Fluency in landing zone and subscription design, private networking, containerized compute, API management, and resilience patterns
- Extensive hands-on experience with Terraform, identity management, and observability at scale
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Fluent English
- Pragmatic mindset: preference for boring, well-understood solutions; design for adoption rather than mandate; treat regulation as a design input; comfortable with ambiguity
Nice to have: Experience in regulated industries, Kubernetes and serverless, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, FinOps, and operational resilience.
