Allica Bank is the UK's fastest-growing fintech firm, focused on serving established SMEs—a major underserved segment representing over a third of the UK economy. The IT Platforms team is central to the bank's operations, responsible for all cloud, on-premise, and desktop services.
As Lead Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain stable, secure, and high-performance platforms across the organization. You'll lead a talented platform engineering team, providing technical leadership and mentorship while setting new standards for platform excellence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, planning, management, and oversight of the cloud environment, with primary focus on Azure (GCP experience desirable)
- Lead design, implementation, and maintenance of platforms within Allica's cloud environments
- Oversee deployment and management of Azure resources using Terraform, implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to ensure scalable, consistent, and secure environments
- Lead development and optimization of Azure DevOps pipelines for infrastructure deployments, driving automation and improving delivery performance
- Collaborate cross-functionally with software developers, security teams, and system administrators to integrate solutions seamlessly
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the platform engineering team
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends in platform engineering and cloud platforms
The role is predominantly home-based with occasional in-person collaboration at Milton Keynes or London offices. Allica Bank offers flexible and hybrid working arrangements tailored to individual needs.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in platform engineering and design within Azure Cloud environments
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform
- Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline management
- Proven leadership experience leading teams and managing projects
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex platform/infrastructure issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
