xAI is seeking a Lead Engineer for Power Generation to design, build, and activate technically advanced power plants and generation infrastructure. As a lead engineer, you will manage a team of engineers designing, building, and maintaining electrical power systems for new power generation projects. You will operate with autonomy to solve complex problems, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment collaborating with electrical, mechanical, controls, and other engineering disciplines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading a team of engineers on detailed electrical design and specifications for power generation plant equipment and systems
- Designing electrical power distribution systems, switchgear, motor control centers, plant and yard lighting, control systems and ladder logic, UPS units, standby/emergency/black-start generators, automatic transfer switches, power monitoring hardware/software, communications networks, grounding systems, fire alarm systems, and lightning protection
- Providing electrical engineering support to plant technicians and operators for troubleshooting
- Conducting load flow analysis, electrical equipment evaluation, grounding analysis, and power monitoring
- Ensuring equipment interfaces properly with mechanical and electrical systems and plant power budgets
- Coordinating electrical installations and maintenance with local utilities
- Ensuring all designs conform to applicable codes (NFPA 70E, NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 497, NFPA 101, NESC, IEEE, IBC)
- Providing code review and analysis

REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other engineering discipline
- 3+ years of professional experience working on electrical projects, power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS's, and/or generators
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- 3+ years of management experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in a similar role
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- Experience with power plant or power generation electrical systems
- Ability to read and understand power and control schematics
- Ability to read and understand highly technical equipment operation and maintenance manuals
- Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and industrial pumps
- Experience with controls in MODBUS communication
- Experience with medium voltage distribution
- Experience with control panel design and production
- Working knowledge of power coordination and arc flash
- Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently
- High level of self-motivation with ability to work under minimal supervision
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize and schedule workload
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
