As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work directly with enterprise customers to understand their needs and build software that connects Legora to their systems and workflows. This is a hands-on individual contributor role within Enterprise Engineering, where you'll take defined projects from technical scoping through implementation, testing, and production delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with enterprise customers and your team to understand workflows, clarify requirements, and translate customer needs into engineering tasks
- Building, testing, and shipping integrations and product changes, taking ownership of defined projects from implementation through deployment
- Communicating technical decisions clearly to customers and teammates, keeping them informed about progress and blockers
- Working with experienced engineers on design reviews and technical tradeoffs, seeking support early when requirements or risks are unclear
- Debugging issues across Legora and customer systems using logs, tests, and systematic investigation
- Bringing customer feedback into product discussions and identifying opportunities to make solutions reusable
You'll work closely with product engineers, Legal Engineers, and Engagement Managers, building your technical judgment and customer-facing skills while taking increasing ownership of delivery. The role is based in Legora's Union Square office in NYC, with 5 days/week on-site presence.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2-3+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on experience building and shipping production software
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: ability to write, test, and debug reliable code and work effectively in existing codebases
- Clear communication skills; comfort talking with customers, asking questions, and explaining technical work to engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience taking a feature or defined project through implementation and delivery, with ability to explain what you built, decisions made, and outcomes
- Curiosity about the problem behind requests; desire to understand how people use what you build and improve based on feedback
- Accountability for your work, receptiveness to feedback, and ability to surface blockers early
- Adaptability across technologies and interest in learning unfamiliar systems quickly
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience building B2B enterprise software in a fast-moving environment
- Experience working directly with customers or partnering with product teams to understand user needs
- Familiarity with APIs, authentication, integrations, and data flows across systems
- TypeScript experience (used extensively at Legora, but strong engineers from other stacks welcome)
- Practical experience using AI tools to build software or improve workflows
