MariaDB is seeking a Java Senior Software Engineer to lead development of a highly scalable, geo-distributed, and performant database solution. You will work on a small, highly skilled team where your contributions directly impact a product used by 75% of the Fortune 500 and billions of people worldwide.
In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability of the database system. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features. Your day-to-day work includes troubleshooting and resolving complex issues in distributed environments, profiling and fine-tuning performance using tools like JFR, JMC, async-profiler, and VisualVM. You'll develop and optimize data structures for high data-intensive scenarios, implement efficient ways to store data to disk and send data over the network to other nodes (including failure handling and recovery), and implement algorithms for high availability across the cluster. You'll also investigate flaws in data consistency algorithms, which may require thorough debugging on multi-node clusters and low-level byte-represented data.
The role emphasizes deep technical work on distributed systems fundamentals: replication, sharding, concurrency, and performance optimization. You'll maintain clean, reviewable code with Git and contribute to an open-source project. This is a globally distributed team with a culture that values creativity and clean engineering.
