Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform enabling organizations to harness IoT data for actionable insights across physical operations including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing.
As IT Engineering Manager II, you will lead the Core IT engineering team responsible for internal integrations, automation, and AI-native workflows. Your team builds systems and processes that enable every function at Samsara to do its best work, serving the service organization, identity management, and other internal teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the technical roadmap for integrations, automation, and AI-native workflows across Core IT, including orchestration tooling and agentic workflows that eliminate manual work company-wide.
- Manage a globally distributed engineering team spanning US and India time zones, growing their capabilities as the mandate expands.
- Unify a team previously split across multiple reporting lines under a single engineering strategy with clearly defined metrics for capacity, throughput, and velocity.
- Build the working rhythm and processes needed for a globally distributed team to operate cohesively, managing overlap hours and handoffs across time zones.
- Evaluate and adopt new automation and AI tooling as it matures, determining where it belongs in the organization's systems.
- Partner with ServiceOps and Business Operations leadership to identify where automation and self-service can retire manual work.
- Serve as liaison between business stakeholders and the automation team, translating operational needs into technical requirements and prioritizing automation initiatives.
- Champion Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as the company scales globally.
You'll have hands-on technical involvement, setting direction while remaining capable of reviewing pull requests and evaluating architecture decisions. The role requires meaningful daily overlap with India working hours.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum:
- 8+ years of software engineering, DevOps, or automation engineering experience, including 3+ years directly managing engineers
- Experience managing a globally distributed engineering team across multiple time zones, including India
- Hands-on experience with workflow automation and orchestration tooling (Selenium, Workato, or similar) and building integrations across enterprise systems
- Track record of setting technical direction and shared roadmap for a team, not just running an existing one
- Proficiency in Python/JavaScript with ability to read and review pull requests, evaluate architecture decisions, and guide developers on CI/CD, TDD, and GitHub best practices
Ideal:
- Experience evaluating or deploying AI-driven or agentic automation tools in production
- Experience building integrations and automation serving other teams' platforms rather than owning a single platform end-to-end
- Experience with ITSM and ticketing platforms (Zendesk, Jira) and automation reducing manual ticket handling
- Experience building automations, integrations, and monitoring on core SaaS and identity tooling (Okta, Google Workspace, Atlassian, Slack)
- Experience with corporate security and compliance programs (SOX, FedRAMP, GDPR, CCPA, or similar)
