Factbird helps manufacturers extract actionable insights from production line data through plug-and-play hardware and cloud platforms. The company is scaling rapidly across sites, teams, and countries.
As a Senior IoT Solutions Engineer in Engineering Services, you will solve complex technical integration challenges that fall outside standard product and support scope. You'll work directly with customers and internal teams to answer feasibility questions, design custom solutions, and troubleshoot production systems.
Key responsibilities include:
• Answer feasibility questions from Sales: determine whether specific machines, PLCs, or sensors can connect to Factbird and design the approach
• Design and build custom solutions including logic boxes, signal converters, IO-Link modules, EDGE flows, and OMRON NX1 programs to fill product gaps
• Design end-to-end integrations by mapping customer OT/IT environments, planning data sources, tag structures, transformations, and security
• Perform root cause troubleshooting in live production environments (smaller time allocation, highest stakes)
• Document all builds and fixes comprehensively: Solution Records, runbooks, wiring guides, configurations, with clear handoff capability
• Bench-test hardware before shipment and validate full data flows including failure recovery and restart scenarios
• Integrate customer systems using Kepware, Ignition, OPC UA, MQTT, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and Node-RED
• Share knowledge with Support, Solution Consultants, and Hardware teams to increase their technical capability
• Identify and streamline repetitive processes; build templates and scripts to accelerate future deliveries
• Convert repeat workarounds into product improvement proposals with business cases
• Participate in customer and prospect calls as the technical expert alongside Solution Consultants and Account Managers
You are an experienced industrial automation engineer comfortable with both hands-on work and technical problem-solving. You understand factory operations and can articulate complex trade-offs clearly. You document meticulously because you know others depend on it. You're self-directed, systematic in troubleshooting, and thrive in a dynamic environment where priorities shift weekly. You love being the expert while equally enjoying teaching others and simplifying answers for stakeholders.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent hands-on experience
• Minimum 5 years in industrial automation or controls engineering with hands-on shop floor work (7+ years preferred)
• Hands-on PLC programming experience with at least one major vendor (Siemens, Omron, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley)
• Solid understanding of industrial protocols: OPC UA, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, MQTT
• Working knowledge of sensors and signals: digital, analog (4–20 mA, 0–10 V), IO-Link, PNP/NPN, energy metering
• Demonstrated root cause analysis capability across hardware, networks, and software in live production
• Field experience commissioning or troubleshooting equipment in operating plants
• Comfortable troubleshooting site networks: IP setup, routers, SIMs, firewalls
• Fluent English communication with ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical audiences
• Strong documentation discipline and habits
