Hnry is hiring an Intermediate Software Engineer to join their engineering team in Sydney. You'll play a key role in building polished customer experiences while evolving the systems that power the business. Working collaboratively across Product, Customer Operations, and Engineering, you'll take features from early concept through to production release and post-release maintenance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engaging with customers and business stakeholders to identify problems and propose solutions

- Providing detailed code reviews to colleagues and maintaining standards
- Helping design architecture for new features and presenting to the team for feedback
- Collaborating with and supporting the wider Hnry team

Hnry operates on agile practices, delivering improvements iteratively in small chunks and measuring impact on results rather than code volume. The technology stack includes Ruby on Rails, AWS services (via Terraform), Postgres, Docker, and React. The team practices automated testing, continuous deployment, and releases to production multiple times daily. Code review is a core practice, and time is set aside for experimental features, refactoring, and learning. The culture emphasizes working hard and finishing on time without excessive hours.
The company has engineering teams spread across three jurisdictions and is particularly interested in candidates based in Sydney, though they hire globally. They note they're not actively hiring but welcome expressions of interest from strong engineers interested in joining now or in the future.

- At least two years of professional experience as a developer
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to take complex problems, break them down, and build robust solutions
- Experience with automated testing

- Curious mindset and empathy for end users
- Full working rights in Australia
