Salary: CAD 95,000 - 120,000 / annual
AppDirect is a subscription commerce platform powering millions of subscriptions worldwide. Firstbase, an AppDirect subsidiary, helps companies equip their teams with everything needed to do great work—from computers and furniture to company swag and perks. Firstbase's platform provisions, tracks, and manages employee IT equipment from onboarding through return and end-of-life.
You will join Firstbase's engineering team to build and expand the platform. You'll write software used daily by warehouse, procurement, and customer operations teams, as well as external customers. Your work will span product catalog, orders, fulfillment, and customer-facing applications.
Key responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain features across Firstbase's product catalog, orders, fulfillment, and customer-facing applications
- Build and extend REST and GraphQL APIs using Java (Spring) with guidance from senior engineers on design and approach
- Work with PostgreSQL and messaging systems (Kafka, SQS/SNS) as part of the platform stack
- Contribute technical designs for assigned features and stories, explaining trade-offs to teammates
- Own the quality lifecycle for your work: write tests at the right layer (unit, integration, end-to-end), participate in code review, shepherd changes through delivery, and follow through on issues after release
- Partner closely with Firstbase operations teams (warehouse, procurement, fulfillment) to translate their workflows and constraints into production software
- Participate in team delivery practices and actively give and receive feedback
- Use AI-assisted development tools for bounded tasks with review; you remain responsible for understanding changes, test coverage, and merge quality

Requirements:
- At least 2 years of professional software development experience
- Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Proficiency with Java and Spring framework
- Experience with REST and GraphQL APIs
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL and messaging systems (Kafka, SQS/SNS)
- Strong testing practices (unit, integration, end-to-end)
- Ability to contribute technical designs and explain trade-offs
