Samba TV is a Series D media intelligence company (~$100M raised, pre-IPO) that tracks what the world watches, reads, and thinks about in real time across every screen. The company's data comes with consent from over a billion people and powers decision-making for major global brands.
You will write C++ applications that run on Linux TV and Android TV environments, extracting video frame buffers and audio PCM data directly from hardware pipelines and converting them into content-recognition fingerprints for Samba's algorithms. You'll work closely with TV engineering teams at major OEM partners like Sony, TCL, and Titan OS—delivering Samba's SDK and specifications, then validating their implementations against spec. You'll deploy and debug on real devices (not simulators) over network, USB, or serial connections, working directly at the embedded Linux OS level.
This is a backfill role: the previous engineer is returning from parental leave, and a new OEM integration project is ramping for Q4. You'll own this work end-to-end with no senior engineer in the Taipei office to lean on—you know what needs to get done and you drive it to completion.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced C++ proficiency (this is an L3 individual contributor role, not a growth position)
- Hands-on embedded device development experience: you've deployed code from a laptop onto real devices over network, USB, or serial, ideally from a TV OEM/ODM, TV SOC company, or mobile hardware company as a systems engineer (not driver/firmware-only)
- Comfortable at the Linux command line
- Experience with video or audio frame processing—pulling frame buffers and PCM audio from hardware video pipelines
- Strong communication skills: code review is central to this team; you must explain your work clearly so others can follow and provide feedback, especially important in a Taipei office culture where people may default to staying quiet
- Ownership mindset: you work independently without a finished roadmap or oversight

- You need a senior person to mentor you (you're the only engineer in this seat)
- Your experience is driver or firmware level only, with no systems-layer work above it
- You go quiet during code review instead of walking people through your reasoning
